A World Leader in Pediatric Medicine

Interim Department Chair: Kenneth Cox, M.D.
Provided in partnership with Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, the department's programs and services offer state-of-the-art primary and specialty care. Our researchers and clinicians continually collaborate across the bench-to-bedside continuum, transforming their discoveries into the most effective diagnostics, treatments and prevention therapies available today. Their efforts have advanced the care of children with cardiac and pulmonary disorders, organ failure, cancer and blood diseases, among other conditions.
As part of a world-class academic institution, we stake our reputation on preparing future leaders in pediatric medicine. Internationally recognized as experts in their fields, our faculty members offer broad-based training in general pediatrics, critical care and pediatric subspecialties within a variety of ambulatory, inpatient and community settings. Guided by a strong ethic of social responsibility, the department also supports a number of community-based programs addressing obesity, asthma, and other issues impacting the health of children and adolescents in the Bay Area and around the globe. Tightly integrated with our educational activities, these programs provide hands-on learning to equip our graduates with the skills they'll need as future advocates of children's health.
