Rheumatology
The Pediatric Rheumatology Program at Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford is a comprehensive multidisciplinary specialty care center for diagnostic, consultative and treatment services for children and adolescents with rheumatic diseases. The spectrum of diseases seen in this program range from the classical rheumatic diseases of childhood including juvenile arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, scleroderma, and vasculitis to the diagnostic evaluation of fever of unknown origin, post-infectious autoimmune syndromes, autoimmune phenomena associated with nonrheumatic diseases, musculoskeletal pain, and somatoform disorders. The multidisciplinary core team includes pediatric rheumatologists (Christy Sandborg M.D., Tzielan Lee, M.D., Peter Chira, M.D., Imelda Balboni, M.D., Joyce Hsu, M.D., Elizabeth Mellins M.D.), a rheumatology nurse specialist, pediatric physical therapist, pediatric occupational therapist, and pediatric licensed clinical social worker. Consultative team members include pediatric physical medicine, psychiatry, psychology and dietary as well as the entire spectrum of pediatric specialty and subspecialty services available at Stanford. The goal of the Pediatric Rheumatology Special Care Center is to provide the highest quality of medical care for these children and adolescents in in the most cost-efficient environment that facilitates functioning in their home and community. The director of the division, Christy Sandborg M.D., through her membership in the Pediatric Rheumatology Executive Committee of the American College of Rheumatology, the Committee on Rheumatologic Care of the American College of Rheumatology, the Arthritis Foundation, and the Subboard of Pediatric Rheumatology of the American Board of Pediatrics, is well-positioned to ensure the state-of-the-art clinical and health care delivery knowledge base needed for a successful program in this environment, as well as help shape the future of pediatric rheumatology nationally.:

The letters of recommendation must come from three individuals including your current residency program director who can comment on your clinical skills, abilities and potentials.
